Annual Cookie Baking Day!

We had our annual cookie baking day with the Hudsons and Grandma on Saturday!!  It is always so much fun and the kids love it more and more each year!  This year we let them help cut out sugar cookie dough (which we threw away because it ended up being too sticky to actually do anything with), decorate sugar cookies with paint brushes and frosting (we made some round cookies that would actually work!), put thumb prints in melt-aways (which we ended up having to completely re-do), and layer all the ingredients into the 7-layer bars (which actually turned out OK!).  It was so much fun..and even though Deanna and I have both eaten enough cookies to make ourselves sick EVERY day since...we will definitely keep this up every year if we can!

Getting ready for sugar cookie cutting

Might want to turn the volume down a little before watching the video...the kids were singing Jingle bells...this was after we had already established that the dough was going in the trash, so we let them just go to town!!

Painting on the frosting

The after...not too bad considering...I figured all the colors would be mixed up by the end!!

Another cookie break...this time to read books with Grandma

Crushing the Vanilla Wafers for the 7 layer bars

Their rewards for the end of the day...
(I had to change the "I" to a "B" because Grandma didn't like the I...so, actually I should say...She changed the "I" to a "B")

7 layer bars...

Deanna got a few shots of all the kids :)

  1. LOVE this tradition! Can't wait 'til Jill lives closer so we can do it, too. :o) And by the way, why do I STILL not have the melt-away recipe?!
